Fastest Whisper Cache Farm in Diablo 4 Season 7 (Season of Witchcraft)

The fastest way to farm the Grim Favors you turn in for Whisper Caches at the Tree of Whispers (or a Raven) in Diablo 4 Season 7 is to travel between Headhunt Zones, completing the Fugitive Whisper in each zone by Unearthing Cocoons and potentially sticking around to complete a few other Whispers.

10 GRIM FAVORS = 1 WHISPER CACHE

It takes 10 Grim Favors to earn a Whisper Cache, so you’ll want to prioritize Whispers that give the most Grim Favors possible. There are a far greater number of overall Whispers in Headhunt Zones compared to the next-most dense area, Helltides, making Helltides irrelevant for Whisper grinding this season. If you’re in a Helltide anyway for the Season Journey and want to farm Whispers while you’re there, though, by all means.

BOSS WHISPERS = 5 GRIM FAVORS

For quite a few seasons, Helltides have featured a “Boss Whisper” that’s worth 5 Grim Favors. I’m not a math genius, but I think that means you only have to do 2 of these Whispers to get a Whisper Cache. They’re worth the same as the Whispers you get for completing dungeons and killing bosses. More on that in a moment.

Now, in Season 7, there’s a “Boss Whisper” worth 5 Grim Favors you can complete over and over again without having to wait for Helltide to reset. Every 10 minutes, a new Headhunt Zone appears, allowing you to travel from one zone to another, collecting a Fugitive Whisper each time.

FUGITIVE WHISPERS IN HEADHUNT ZONES

You earn Fugitive Whispers in Headhunt Zones by completing Unearthed Cocoon events, which can spawn either a Fugitive Head or Headless Husk. Killing either of these “mini-boss” enemies completes your Fugitive Whisper, rendering 5 Grim Favors. Unearthed Cocoons appear out of Exposed Roots, which themselves appear as you complete other Whispers throughout the Headhunt Zone.

As long as there are a few players farming a Headhunt Zone at a time, you usually don’t have to wait until your own Exposed Roots show up. Within a couple of minutes at the most, you’ll see a notification that an Unearthed Cocoon has spawned, accompanied by an orange icon on your map. Get on your mount and head over as soon as possible to make sure you get your Fugitive Whisper.

HEADHUNT WHISPERS RANKED

Either to spawn Exposed Roots or as the cherry on top before you move on to another zone, here are the best Whispers to complete in each Headhunt Zone, ranked for your convenience:

#1 Fugitive (5 Grim Favors)

Absolutely worth doing. Might be the only Whisper you do.

#2 Purge the Rot (3 Grim Favors)

If you stick around just a little while after completing a Unearthed Cocoon, this one will come quickly. To speed it up, target Headrotten, identified by their blue glow. This will also yield you Restless Rot.

#3 Harvest (3 Grim Favors)

Carried over from the beginning of the game, Harvest Whispers still appear in Headhunt Zones. You’ll have harvested 100 Souls by the time you’ve completed one Unearthed Cocoon event, so make sure to pin this one on your map.

#4 Scour (3 Grim Favors)

This Whisper helps you stock up on Bundled Herbs, and it’s also pretty easy. Just make sure to open your map if you can’t find the Urn after collecting 7 herbs.

#5 Patrol (3 Grim Favors)

This one can take a while, so I usually don’t do it. It can help, though, when you still need to complete Purge the Rot.

#6 Wisps (3 Grim Favors)

What is even going on with this one? The dang thing moves so fast, and the Whisper takes forever. Hard pass.

#7 Shepherd (3 Grim Favors)

Great idea, terrible execution. It’s near-impossible to track the critters as they move. Sometimes I complete this one by accident.

LADDER BOSS WHISPERS

If you get tired of running around between Headhunt Zones, you might want to mix things up a bit by chasing down the current Whisper Boss. Every hour, a new Ladder Boss rewards 5 Whispers when you slay it. Some of these bosses are quite remote, potentially reducing your interest in chasing these Whispers down. Varshan is right in town, however, and Beast in Ice is just outside Kyovashad.

DUNGEON WHISPERS

In each zone there’s a Dungeon that offers 5 Grim Favors on completion, switching between Dungeons in the zone every hour. Sometimes, completing a Pit also renders 5 Grim Favors. These take a while and are unpredictable, however, so it’s only worth collecting these Whispers if you’re doing the Dungeon anyway.

WORLD BOSS WHISPERS

Similarly, you get 5 Whispers for killing World Bosses… but only sometimes? I’m not exactly sure how the math behind this one works, but if a World Boss shows up with a Whisper, you might as well take it down.

FINAL TIPS

Don’t be afraid to skip Whispers if they get repetitive. The only 3 I’d really say are essential in each Headhunt Zone before moving on are Fugitive, Harvest, and Purge the Rot. Sometimes I even skip Harvest out of boredom.

Remember that Ravens from the Tree of Whispers are stationed in each Headhunt Zone, making it easy to turn in Grim Favors for Whisper Caches without going back to town. Set the Tree of Whispers as your default town, though, because porting back can sometimes be the best choice.
