Witch Power Guide for Diablo 4 Season 7 (Season of Witchcraft)

Witch Powers are the main seasonal powers in Diablo 4 Season of Witchcraft. Fan favorites from previous seasons have stuck around, so some Witch Powers may appear after Season 7 in the form of Aspects or items. All we know for certain is that Witch Powers have the potential to dramatically augment your build in Diablo 4 Season 7, with Lost Powers being particularly worth chasing down.

UNLOCKING WITCH POWERS

Aside from Lost Powers, all Witch Powers are bought using Restless Rot at one of the three Altars of Witchcraft that have appeared near the Tree of Whispers. In an excellent example of an attempt at clarification making something more confusing, you can buy any of the non-Lost Witch Powers from any of these Altars — regardless of the type of Witch Power you’re buying.

ALTAR OF WITCHCRAFT PTR CONTROVERSY

In the PTR of Season 7, you could only unlock a Witch Power from its respective Altar of Witchcraft. You bought Eldritch Powers at the Eldritch Altar, Psyche Powers at the Psyche Altar, and Growth & Decay Powers at the Growth & Decay Altar. I suppose Blizzard thought we were too dumb to work out this immensely complex puzzle, but their solution raises the question: Why even have the 3 different Altars of Witchcraft in the first place? I feel bad for the designers who created these works of art only to have their meaning devalued.

RANK UP COVEN’S FAVOR TO UNLOCK WITCH POWERS

But, in summation, you can buy all the non-Lost Witch Powers at any of the Altars of Witchcraft. Aside from Unique Witch Powers, which cost 100 Restless Rot, all other Witch Powers cost 25 Restless Rot to unlock. Notably, certain Witch Powers are gatekept behind your progression in the Seasonal Questline. You can’t unlock Unique Witch Powers, for instance, until you get to Coven’s Favor Tier VII.

FARMING RESTLESS ROT

This all means you’re going to be spending a lot of time farming Restless Rot. The rate at which Restless Rot drops doubles with each world tier, so get to the highest tier you can, and start farming. Remember that you can convert unneeded Fugitive Heads into 300 Restless Rot each if you don’t have enough. See these videos for more information:

UPGRADING WITCH POWERS

You might want to prioritize upgrading the Witch Powers you have before you unlock more. Each Witch Power has a secondary effect that only kicks in at a certain upgrade rank. These secondary effects are almost universally more powerful than the primary effect that’s active from the moment you purchase and slot a Witch Power.

It costs more to upgrade Witch Powers with every rank. Unique Witch Powers cost considerably more to upgrade, but their maximum rank is 5. Normal Witch Powers, on the other hand, go up to Rank 20, with their secondary powers being unlocked between Rank 5 and Rank 15.

It is not necessary to go back to the Tree of Whispers to upgrade your Witch Powers. You can do so directly in the UI as soon as you’ve acquired enough Restless Rot.

LOST WITCH POWERS

No guide to Diablo 4 Season 7 Witch Powers would be complete without touching on Lost Powers. Unlocked at Forgotten Altars, normal Lost Powers augment your other Witch Powers while the Unique Lost Witch Power Piranhado groups enemies and deals massive damage.

Forgotten Altars appear randomly within dungeons, which include Pits, Nightmare Dungeons, and Rootholds. See this video for help finding Forgotten Altars in Diablo 4 Season 7:

There are four Lost Witch Powers in all, so expect to spend quite a bit of time looking for Forgotten Altars. Lost Powers also cost an incredible amount of Restless Rot to upgrade — rank-ups for normal Lost Powers start at 125 Restless Rot and increase to 500 Restless Rot at rank 20. Piranhado’s last rank costs a whopping 1,250 Restless Rot.

MY WITCH POWERS

For my Summon Necro build in Season 7, I’m using Poison Frog Servant, Aura Specialization, Hex of Whispers, Aura of Misfortune, Grow, and Piranhado. These powers work well with my Friend of the Bog Legendary Occult Gem and my Grandfather Mythic Unique. For more details, see my build guide (Patch 2.12 update coming soon):
